Frequently asked questions
The amounts and time limits given in the answers below are the ones the agency actually applies.
Before you book
How old do I have to be to rent?
You must have turned 23 by the day of pick-up. You must also hold a valid driving licence issued at least 3 years ago. These are the agency's eligibility conditions: no exception will be made. Any additional driver must meet the same conditions and be named on the rental agreement. Otherwise, they will not be permitted to drive the vehicle.
Can I rent with a foreign driving licence?
Yes. A licence is accepted whatever country issued it, as long as it remains valid for the whole rental period and has been held for at least 3 years. You must present the original document: no photo or photocopy will be accepted.
Do I need an account to book?
No, it is not necessary: you can book without an account. In that case, you will receive a confirmation and an invoice by email once the booking is complete. That said, an account makes future bookings easier and gives you access to the details of your bookings and invoices. If you need to, you can cancel your booking directly online.
How far in advance do I need to book?
If you are already in Martinique, you can book a vehicle and collect it as little as 1 hour after booking, at our office, the airport or the port. However, a vehicle that has just been returned is unavailable for the following two hours while it is prepared.
What is the maximum rental period?
30 days per rental, the ceiling set by our short-term insurance cover. That period can be renewed twice at most, up to 90 days in total. Every extension must be requested from us and formalised before the current rental ends — never by simply keeping the car: beyond the agreed time, cover no longer applies.
Can I rent again straight after a rental?
Yes, as many times as you like. Short-term rentals are capped at 90 cumulative days: beyond that, a one-month gap applies before a new rental. Our representative keeps that count.
Price and payment
When do I pay?
The rental is paid in full online when you book, by payment card. Nothing is taken on arrival, apart from any extra charges noted on return. The price shown when you book is fixed, even if our rates change afterwards.
Is mileage limited?
No, mileage is unlimited on every car, at no extra charge and with no mileage deposit.
What extras do you offer?
Vehicle pick-up at the airport, the port of Fort-de-France or our office, at no extra charge · Child seat: €45 per rental · Booster seat: €35 per rental · Additional driver: €25 per rental. They are chosen when you book and paid for at the same time as the rental.
Can I cancel, and on what terms?
Free of charge up to 48 hours before pick-up: the amount paid is refunded in full. Inside that window, €60 is retained from the amount paid. Once the pick-up time has passed, the rental is due: no cancellation is possible and no refund is made.
Can I change my rental dates after booking?
Yes, up to 48 hours before the pick-up time, by contacting us on +596 696 17 10 85. Changes are not made online: we need to check that the vehicle is available on the new dates and recalculate the price, with the difference charged or refunded depending on the period. If that notice period is not respected, a €60 penalty is retained. You can always make a new booking afterwards if you wish.
How do I get my invoice?
It is issued as soon as payment is taken, and can be reached from the confirmation email, as well as from your account if you have one. It includes VAT at the rate applicable in Martinique.
On the day of pick-up
What do I need to show at pick-up?
Your driving licence, valid photo ID, and the payment card used online, in the main driver's name. Originals are required. No vehicle will be released for a booking paid with someone else's card, except that of a spouse or partner.
How much is the security deposit, and how is it held?
€930, as a payment card imprint on your arrival. It is neither taken nor charged online when you book, and the amount is the same whatever the category of vehicle. Do check your card's limit before booking: no vehicle will be released without a deposit.
What happens if I return the car late?
We allow 30 minutes' grace. Beyond that, an additional rental day is due at that day's rate, and €60 in late fees is added. These charges are cumulative.
How does fuel work?
The fuel level is noted with you when the vehicle is handed over, and it must be returned at the same level. Otherwise, €60 is charged.
Does the car have to be returned clean?
It must be returned in its original condition. €60 is charged if the vehicle needs a more thorough clean than usual — for example, lingering odours, significant sand, soil or litter, or animal hair. This list is not exhaustive. A vehicle that is merely dusty or has been driven in the rain incurs no charge. The return inspection takes place when you bring the vehicle back, with photographs.
Insurance and the unexpected
What does the insurance cover, and what excess do I pay?
Every car is insured with NAGICO Assurances for third-party liability and damage. The excess depends on the circumstances, not on the amount of the damage alone: €1,360 for third-party liability, where the claim engages your liability towards someone else; €1,360 for accidental damage to the rented car, in particular where no liable third party is identified; €850 for theft and fire; €92 for glass breakage. Some damage remains contractually yours to bear — the interior, tyres, wheel rims, misfuelling, personal effects. The detailed cover and exclusions are those of the insurer's own terms, which we will send you on request before you book.
Can I buy out the excess?
This option is not offered today. The excess corresponding to the claim therefore remains payable by you, under the terms of the insurance contract.
What should I do in the event of an accident, breakdown or theft?
Call assistance on 05 96 60 26 04, then let us know without delay. No repair or recovery may be undertaken without the insurer's prior agreement: costs incurred without that agreement remain yours. In the event of an accident, complete an accident report form even if no third party is identified, and tell us within 24 hours. In the event of theft or vandalism, report it to the police immediately, then hand us the police receipt, the original keys and the car's documents within 48 hours.
Is a replacement car provided if the car is off the road?
No. That cover is explicitly excluded from the insurance contract, whatever the cause.
Can I take the car off Martinique?
No, unless we agree in writing beforehand. Driving outside the territory without that agreement voids the insurer's cover: any damage would then be entirely yours to bear, as would the value of the car in the event of theft.
